Our senior project team designed and manufactured an adjustable height bench grinder stand to improve the level of safety and comfort of the user.

Our Team

Michael Sitar

I am a fourth year mechanical engineering major with a passion for machining. Once I have graduated, I intend to pursue my own start-up and continue improving my design and manufacturing skills.

Zachary Wedel

I was a transfer student to Cal Poly with a concentration in Mechatronics but switched to Manufacturing. I have an interest in robotics, so after graduation I will be job searching for something that incorporates both robotics and manufacturing.

Joe Zagorski

I am a sixth year mechanical engineering student who loves to work with my hands. After college, I look forward to pursuing a career in firefighting while keeping up with my hobbies of cycling and woodworking.

Daniel Zevenbergen

I am a fourth year mechanical engineering student and spend most of my free time in the machine shop. This summer I look forward to interning at Rivian before returning to Cal Poly to finish my undergrad.

We started by sketching the grinder stand with a linear actuator concept, followed constructing a cardboard concept model. The next step was creating a preliminary CAD model of our design which is the second picture from the right. Finally, we updated the bearing system, eliminated the gas spring, added a power supply, and added a rocker switch to arrive at our final CAD model.
