Fever Dots

Wellhouse Enterprises has developed the novel “FeverDot”, a temperature sensing epidermal patch that can indicate a surface fever temperature via ink color change. The product utilizes thermochromic ink that changes from black to pink at temperatures fever temperature, and FDA food safe sticker paper. Wellhouse Enterprises currently manually manufactures each FeverDot in their homes, but they envision their product being scaled up for mass production and sale. To meet this need, the Fever Dots Senior Project Team researched varying printing manufacturing methods and ultimately built a custom Fever Dots Printing Press.

Effect of Distal Core Flattening on 304 Stainless Steel Guide Wires

Abbott cardiovascular produces a variety of medical guide wires to accommodate a wide array of minimally invasive medical procedures. These wires can have their properties tuned by altering one of their many components. One such method we explore is the effect of flattening on the core material of the wires.

Calibrated Tensioner for Total Knee Arthroplasty Gap Balancer

The purpose of this project was to design a device that interfaces with the previously created gap balancer in order to simultaneously measure the cut gap between the femur and tibia and measure the tension in the ligaments of the knee. The final product, a device called the total knee arthroplasty calibrated tensioner, is intended for use alongside the existing gap balancer during total knee replacement surgery in individuals who have suffered from degradation of cartilage in the knee due to arthritis.
